have you ever had depersonalization or derealization…caused by anxiety

  2. Alex Taylor on April 13th, 2009 8:26 pm

    Hi Aaron!

Actually, if all goes according to plan, the next video will be about depersonalization. Look out for that one towards the end of next week. If there’s anything in particular that you think I should cover, please let me know.

Thanks again Alex .. I will definitely try these. If the lemon trick works it would be great as I could take this when I’m travelling (which gives me terrible problems). I think we need a single place on the web (such as yours) where all new research / medications etc etc can be found. There are so many sites offering ‘cures’ and advice that it is totally confusing (and usually a complete rip off). That’s why I keep returning to your stuff because I know you are genuine and not trying to make money out of people who have this terrible poblem. Does anyone even know wheter or not there is any serious research going on? Anyway, thanks Alex.

Thanks Alex! All the videos are very apreciated. I would very much look foward to videos concerning depersonalization or derealization…..

    Please keep it up!

I agree , i think the next video should be on depersonalization considering i get that more than panic attacks and i start to feel “uncomfortable” during the day. It’s an awkward feeling like a panic attack is coming on, but really it never happens and you just feel off balance or out of place in the world

  6. Alex Taylor on April 14th, 2009 12:53 am

    Gerry,

Thanks a lot for your kind words. If the lemon juice doesnt work for you, don’t give up on the idea altogether. There might be another taste that does it for you. The concept seems to work for everyone, but sometimes it takes a bit of experimenting to find what works best for you.

Bassem, Maria: I’m happy to hear you’re looking forward to the depersonalization video! There’s so little information on the subject, or how to handle it, that I knew it was something I had to cover. I have some *very* interesting ideas on the subject, which I’m sure will help. Can’t wait for you to see the next video!

    Hey Alex, Great video

I have uses this hearing sesnory distraction method and it works. I like to play two differnt songs at the same time, and by trying to distinguish which rthym/beat/ and words belongs to each song my mind becomes distracted and i notice a decrease in my anxiety and it prevents full blown panic attack, and i lose those thought of impending doom.

Thanks again Alex looking forward to more videos!!!

    Rudy,

Fantastic tip about listening to two songs at once. This is something I used myself and I should have included it because it’a a great sensory distraction that works very well. I first came across the idea when I was playing with the Brain Training game on the Nintendo DS :) There’s a game where you have to listen to two or more things at once and try to hear what’s being said in the overlapping voices.

And like you said, it makes a great distraction technique. Thanks for sharing it!

    Diego,

I’m really glad the videos are helping! And thanks for saying such nice things :)

    Dear Alex,

I always listen to your videos and i like them so much. I have a very unique issue I guess. I work with computers in a corporate sector. Every day when I sit in front of my computer I work normally but if my manager or other senior officers come to my desk to clarify some information, I panic, my fingers start shaking so much that I cant even type anything, my heart beat go up like a rocket. I find difficulty speaking. But this wont happen if my colleague who are in my same designation or position I dont feel any changes and I will be normal.

The second issue is, I compete in most of the activities and have had also won prizes. I’ll be normal and relaxed sitting infront of my computer busy working but when seniors come to me and when they announce that the first prize goes to me then I start shaking, I feel very ashamed to say that I feel very hard to shake the hand of my superior and collect my prize because my hands shiver a lot. I also feel the same when I am in a group discussion. When I get to know that my turn nest to speak, I am half dead. I start trembling again and at all the above mentioned scenario my hand shiver a LOT.

Alex, I have never had any panic or anxiety issue when I am alone or when I am on bed as you have mentioned in this video.

Note: I never know why my superiors come to my desk or when I will be called for a group discussion hence I wont be able to use ipod or lemon juice technique because I dont get that much time and every thing happens in just a few seconds. Any suggestion will help me to live my life peacefully. You can also let me know your contact number so that I will call you. Please help me.

Important thing: I got so many chances to get promoted but i declined all of them since I will have to interact with my superiors a lot, which make me nervous and shaky due to which even after having good experience and knowledge I am unable to move forward and still stuck up in the same position without hope. Let me know if you need more details. Please help me Alex.

    Chad

Hey Alex. All your videos are helping me to recover gradually. I really appreciate your way of helping people get better with this tough problem. But are those panic attacks and this extreme anxiety will ever go away? What if you are feeling a generalized stress about everything? or even a feeling of loneliness? Will the above fade in time using these techniques you’re describing? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for all these ideas, so many and so hopeful. I am also looking forward to the depersonalisation video.
    I wish you well.

hi since im new and just started i was wondering what depersonalization was? i’ve had panic disorder now for 7 years straight with little help… I’ve gone from being me (my old self) to being petrified of being left alone like if i was alone something really bad will happen to me or I’ll panic and lose control….. will these videos help that as well as my panic attacks? desperate for my life back.

    Hi everyone,
thanks to everyone who has posted ! It makes me feel I am not alone
I have had anxiety for years - I am jumpy like a cat. Distraction works!
I am trying to figure out why we panic - scared of the unknown-
one doctor I say helped me with just a few words ” the worst that
will happen to you is : if you pass out you will wake up breathing
normally” and this may sound silly but sometimes when in panic mode
I sit down and smile, a forced smile of course but it works for me.
    Thanks!
